Ethiopian athlete Bimr Zerihun beats the women's course record at the Medio Maraton de Sevilla 2024 in a historic edition (1h07:59)

The Kenyan athlete Bravin Kiprop won in the men's category clocking in under one hour (59:21), and Lidia Campo and Iraitz Arróspide were the first Spaniards at finish line of the flattest half marathon course in Europe.

It’s been an historic day for the Seville Half Marathon (Medio Maraton de Sevilla) today thanks to the new women's record set by the Ethiopian athlete Alemtsehay Bimr Zerihun who has stopped the clock in 1h07:59, breaking the previous course record by almost 30 seconds. Moreover, the victory was achieved in a thrilling sprint, beating her compatriot Aberash Shilima Kebeda, second with 1h08:02, who also improved the previous record by Betsy Saina in 2023. Italy's Rebecca Lonedo completed the podium in 1h10:13. Lidia Campo was the first Spaniard to finish, 11th overall, achieving her personal best (1h11:37) and qualifying for the next European Half Marathon Championships in Rome. Up to seven women clocked times under 1h11.

In the men's category, Kenyans Bravin Kiprop and Vincent Kipkorir Kigen led the race from the start. Kiprop launched a powerful attack halfway through the race and ran alone to the finish line at the Paseo de Las Delicias, managing to go under the hour mark: 59:21. Kipkorir closed the gap in the final metres, although he could not catch him (59:48). The Italian athlete Iliass Aouani was the third man to finish in 1h01:32. The Basque athlete Iraitz Arróspide was the first Spaniard to finish in the top-10 of the final classification (1h04:15).

In the wheelchair category, the victory was again for Joaquín García with 58:37, followed by José Vicente Aguilar and Alberto Moroso, second and third, respectively.

Today, the Seville Half Marathon has also beaten its historical record of participation with 14,000 registered participants at the starting line of what is the flattest half marathon in Europe. The growth of this event in Seville has been sustained in the last few years and it is already one of the most popular nationally, and it also stands out for having beaten its record of registered women (27% of the total), as well as that of foreign athletes, reaching almost 4,000 foreign runners.

The Seville Half Marathon is organised by the Club San Pablo de Atletismo and Create Sevilla, with the collaboration of the Instituto Municipal de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Sevilla, Quirónsalud, Hoka as technical sponsor, and Hyundai Hyundauto Motor as official car, and the sponsorship of Plátano de Canarias (the race belongs to the National Running Circuit Plátano de Canarias), City Sightseeing Sevilla and the collaboration of LifePro, Iberitos, as well as the official media Soy Corredor, Sport Life and ABC de Sevilla.
